Mojo Active is one of Bristol’s best-equipped outdoor activity centres, located in 80 acres of private fields and woodland in Almondsbury. It has evolved considerably since its launch in 2012 and is recognised for its leadership in corporate and educational events, in addition to its thriving Birthday party and High Ropes centre.
Mojo Active was founded by Jo McConnell and Mark Johnson in 2012. Following a career in media, Jo was looking for a business partner to fulfill a dream to set up a boot camp company, built on her passion for health, fitness and love of outdoor life. Mark, after a successful career in the Royal Air Force, was looking for a new challenge where he could use his physical training experience to work with civilians.
“We realised straight away that we had complementary areas of expertise, along with a shared love of the outdoors,” says Mark. “The passion was there, we just needed to work out the logistics; in particular a 400 m top specification military-style assault course!”
Sadly Jo McConnell passed away in June 2019 after fighting cancer for over 10 years. She was a hugely positive and inspirational person who lived her life to the max. You can read more about her legacy here
The founding ethos of Mojo Active remains the same today, it’s about getting people outside and active.
Mojo Active prides itself on it’s impressive safety record as a result of the stringent safety standards in place. All Mojo instructors are DBS checked and there is always a qualified first-aider on site supervising the activities. Operations Director, Mark Johnson, oversees all staff training. After 14 years’ service as a military Physical Training Instructor, (specialising as an Outdoor Adventurous Training Instructor), and former experience in outdoor activity centres, Mark is diligent in setting extremely high safety standards and levels of professionalism.
All staff complete a thorough training induction programme, covering all aspects of the activities, safety and child safeguarding procedures. There are comprehensive risk assessments for all activities and robust operating procedures in place to ensure sessions run smoothly and safely. Mojo Active is a fun and safe place for young and old, our site is OFSTED registered and we have been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge.

Always on paw to provide moral support, a wagging tail, or an excuse to take a walk, Hugo is an essential part of the Mojo team.
