Learning through navigation
Orienteering and Mapping offers an engaging, hands-on way to connect classroom learning with real-world skills, all while enjoying the great outdoors. The activity develops practical map-reading and decision-making skills. Using a map and compass, students learn to identify their location, plan routes, and navigate between checkpoints across varied terrain.
A key part of orienteering is orienting the map, matching it to visible features such as fences, roads, or buildings, and using these clues to move confidently through the landscape. This encourages students to think critically, stay focused, and make informed choices about the most efficient paths to take.
The session begins with an interactive theory workshop, where students are introduced to key navigation concepts, map symbols, and compass use. They then apply their learning in a practical orienteering challenge around our 80-acre activity centre, exploring beautiful woodland and open fields.Through this activity, students develop:
- Geographical and spatial awareness
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Confidence in independent navigation
- Teamwork and communication
Prices:
- £17.50 pp + vat for a 2 hour session
- £27.50pp + vat for half day (3 hours)
- £37.50pp + vat for a full day
WINTER MINIBUS OFFER: price above includes free local minibus transport to/from your school for a class of up to 30 children within a 7 mile radius of our Mojo Active site in Almondsbury, North Bristol. This offer is valid on bookings between 1st October 2025 to 31st March 2026. Outside of these dates, our two 16 seater minibuses are available for return transport at £110 + vat per bus.
